The Refuge is beautiful historic cabin located near Evergreen Lake and downtown. You will have comfortable beds with luxury linens, a spacious and inviting living space with comfy places to sit, a jetted bathtub in the master bath, and a very well appointed kitchen. Outdoor spaces include hammocks in the summer and fall, a large deck, lighted firepit area, and private patio.
The cabin is walking distance to downtown Evergreen via a path around Evergreen Lake, and close to many hiking & biking trails, golf courses, rock climbing and fishing. This upper unit of the cabin offers a completely private place for your stay, with 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a full kitchen, spacious living area, outside deck, fire pit and patio. The lower level of the cabin is occupied by the owner, who respects your privacy and loves hosting guests.
The Refuge is located a mile from downtown Evergreen and a half mile from Evergreen Lake and Golf Course. The lake is a beautiful 5-7 minute walk from the cabin along a path next to the golf course, and a walk around part of the lake takes you right into charming downtown Evergreen with live music, mountain nightlife, restaurants and shops. Bring a headlamp for evening walks!
One of the large local elk herds often uses the game trail in the front yard - especially during the rut which begins in late August and lasts until early October. Guests enjoy observing once-in-a-lifetime views of these magnificent animals rutting and trumpeting from the safety of the large deck.
The kitchen is well-appointed, and coffee drinkers may enjoy a Keurig coffee maker, a French press, a pour over carafe, moka pot, coffee grinder, and hot water kettle. The hosts and their families use the cabin from time to time. For that reason, a few of the kitchen cabinets contain private supplies and are locked.
Two important considerations: No indoor vaping or smoking (outdoor areas are an easy alternative), and no marijuana possession or use is permitted on this property.
The Refuge is pet free, including any pets of visitors you may have during your stay.
There are two outdoor security cameras on the property. One is by the owner's front door, and the other is under the carport, with both pointing toward the parking spaces and driveway. There is a noise monitoring device in the living area of the cabin. It will alert you if the noise level reaches above normal conversation levels, but will not record anything.
You may park up to two (2) passenger vehicles on the property in the designated guest parking spots. No RV’s, trailers, campers, tents, boats or recreational vehicles are allowed in the property.
The cabin is not child-proofed.
Due to the high altitude (7,200 ft), guests should be familiar with how to acclimate to this area. I can help with advice and tips!
This neighborhood does not allow loud late-night conversations and social time, either inside or outside (after 10pm).
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS:
In the snow season of October- May, it is necessary to have a 4WD/AWD vehicle with SNOW tires or CHAINS/AUTOSOCK for your tires when snow is present in order to navigate the driveway.
ALL SEASON RADIAL tires do not work on this driveway without chains or an AutoSock for all-season tires when ice and/or snow is present. You will have to wait until the snow/ice have been cleared to navigate the driveway if your vehicle has ALL SEASON RADIAL tires and no type of traction device to use. The driveway is steep enough to require the extra traction in winter conditions.
Being equipped this way meets and exceeds (by one item) the requirements of the State of Colorado Passenger Vehicle Traction and Chain Laws that are implemented in Colorado during winter driving conditions.
Here is what the state requires:
Motorists are required to have EITHER:
- 4WD or AWD vehicle and 3/16” tread depth
- Tires with a mud and snow designation (M+S icon) and 3/16” tread depth
- Winter tires (mountain-snowflake icon) and 3/16” tread depth
- Tires with an all-weather rating by the manufacturer and 3/16” tread depth
- Chains or an AutoSock
• The law focuses on passenger vehicles. Commercial vehicles have their own restrictions.
• It is unlawful to proceed when a state highway is closed or when a restriction is in effect and you lack the required traction equipment.
