Set on the Wilson Ranch property near the Freestone Inn, this two-bedroom cabin is well positioned for year-round outdoor activities. With direct access to the Methow Community Trail, guests can step out the door to enjoy Nordic skiing, biking, or hiking. The cabin includes a king bed in one bedroom, twin beds in the other, and a queen sleeper sofa in the living area. A galley kitchen and compact bathroom with a shower provide everything needed for a comfortable stay. Located close to North Cascade Heli-Skiing and within easy reach of Washington Pass and the North Cascades' trail network. Please note there is currently no wifi.
The Space:
Doe Meadow Cabin is a peaceful two-bedroom getaway located on the scenic Wilson Ranch property, just a short walk from the Freestone Inn. Surrounded by trees and open space, it offers an easy connection to the outdoors, with direct access to the Methow Community Trail for Nordic skiing, biking, and hiking throughout the seasons. In winter, the nearby Sandy Butte trail links you to the Upper Methow’s extensive Nordic system right from the property.
The cabin includes two bright and comfortable bedrooms with forest views framed by corner windows. One bedroom has a king bed, and the other is furnished with two twins. The living area is warm and functional, with wood-paneled walls, a queen sleeper sofa, an armchair, a dining table for six, a wide-screen TV (currently no channels), and a gas stove for heat and atmosphere. The galley kitchen includes an electric stove and oven, under-counter refrigerator, microwave, sink, and coffee maker - everything you need for a self-catered stay. The bathroom has a shower and compact layout. Outside, you’ll find a small deck with Adirondack chairs and a propane grill.
Doe Meadow Cabin comfortably accommodates up to six guests and serves as a convenient base for exploring the Methow Valley. North Cascade Heli-Skiing operates close by on the Freestone property, making this a prime location for heli-skiers during the winter months. Please note that helicopter noise may occasionally be heard in ski season. The Mazama trailhead and nearby forest routes are just minutes away, providing quick access to some of the best trails and scenery in the North Cascades.
There is currently no wifi or TV channels (these are in the pipeline for future installation). Dogs welcome.
The Neighborhood:
MAZAMA
Wilson Ranch is located 2 miles (10 minute bike ride) from the Mazama Store and the Methow Trails trailhead (for great hiking, mountain biking and cross-country ski trail options). In addition to the store with its great bakery and grocery, Mazama is home to the Goat’s Beard outdoor store (with mountain bike and fat bike rentals), the Mazama Ski School for cross country ski hire and lessons and the Mazama Public House. Please be aware that the Sandy Butte Bistro at the nearby Freestone Inn is not currently operating, and Jack's Hut may or may not be open on a very limited basis.
NORTH CASCADES NATIONAL PARK
The Wilson Ranch cabins are also conveniently situated for easy access to the North Cascades and the trailheads to many of the Park's world-class hiking trails. It’s under 20 minutes drive to the Cutthroat Lake trailhead, 25 minutes to Washington Pass and 30 minutes to Maple Pass trailhead. Great for beating the crowds and snagging a trailhead parking spot at peak seasons.
Getting Around:
Getting Here: May to November, from Seattle and the westside, you can drive over State Route 20 and Washington Pass (check WSDOT for closures). Alternate, and winter routes from Seattle are via I90, Snoqualmie Pass and Blewett Pass, or via highway 2 over Stevens Pass (check WSDOT for driving conditions). Combine these routes and you have the scenic Cascade Loop. The nearest major airports are Spokane International Airport at 180 miles (year round) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (190 miles in summer / 260 miles in winter). Regional flights are also available at Pangborn Memorial Airport in Wenatchee located 102 miles away.
Getting Around: Nearest winter trail is the Methow Community Trail. The Mazama Store is 2 miles / 10 minute bike ride. Winthrop is 14 miles / 18 minutes drive.
Other Things to Note:
Doe Meadow Cabin is a privately owned cabin located on the Wilson Ranch property. Guests have access to the seasonal pool and hot tub at The Freestone Inn; guests do not currently have access the The Freestone Inn main lodge unless dining (if open).
This cabin can sleep 6 guests. The sleeping arrangements are a king bed in the main bedroom, twin beds in the second bedroom, and a queen sized fold-out couch in the living room. 4 guests are included in the base rate, additional guests up to maximum of 6 are charged at $25 per person per night.
WIFI: There is currently no wifi, and no TV channels. Installation will be made when possible.
PETS: Up to 2 dogs are allowed for a fee of $50 per pet, per stay (sorry no cats allowed).
Heating is provided by wall heaters and the gas stove. There are window mounted air-conditioners provided in the living room and bedrooms during the summer.
For winter stays a local snow plowing service takes care of the Wilson Ranch roads. Please be patient after snow storms as they have many properties to clear. You will need to shovel the entryway area.
